Ritual
A curated, evidence-aware list from the frozen product graph.
- sacrifice (yajña)ritualThe sacrificial rite itself, the act of worship offered to the gods with fire, speech and oblation.839linked passages
- soma pressing (savana)ritualThe act and occasion of pressing out the soma, the rite around which most of the Rigvedic liturgy is organised.548linked passages
- soma cup drawing (graha)ritualThe drawing and dedication of the soma draughts, cup by cup and deity by deity: the act the Vajasaneyi Samhita's seventh and eighth adhyayas are the formulary for, whose spoken words are "upayāmagṛhīto 'si" -- thou art taken with a support -- fifty-one times, all of them Yajurvedic. Distinct from the pressing, which is VG:CONCEPT:SOMA-PRESSING: VS 18.21 inventories the pressing gear and VS 18.19-20 inventories the twenty-four drawn cups, and the corpus keeps the two lists apart.55linked passages
- marriage (vivāha)ritualThe wedding: the bride, the bridal procession that conveys her, and the marriage occasion itself.168linked passages
- house building (śālā)ritualThe raising and occupation of a dwelling as a ritual act, addressed to the hut in the second person; the building, not the house as a place.322linked passages
- consecration (dīkṣā)ritualThe consecration that makes a man fit to sacrifice, treated in the Atharvaveda as a power in its own right and in VS 19.30 as what a vow earns.16linked passages
- funerary rites (pitṛyāṇa)ritualThe disposal of the dead and the road they take: the cremation ground and the fathers' path, as against the ancestors themselves.10linked passages
- fire altar piling (citi)ritualThe piling up of Agni out of bricks, named by the Samhita as an act and not by a rite-name: Agni is addressed as `cīyamānaḥ`, "while thou art being piled" (VS 13.41, VS 13.47), the sacrificer as `cinvānaḥ`, "piling" (VS 13.47 and four parallels), and the bricks are addressed as bricks and called milch-cows at VS 17.2. The name `agnicayana` is absent from all four Samhitas and is not used here. `cinvānas` is read evidence but not an alias: it occurs only across a token boundary (`cinvānas tanvo`), and SANDHI_MATCH_VEDAS restricts the production substring pass to the Samaveda, so the string would fire nowhere.2linked passages
- sautramani rite (sautrāmaṇī)ritualThe rite in which sura, the fermented liquor, is offered beside the soma. Named twice in the four Samhitas -- VS 19.31, "all this he gains, when juice is shed, in the Sautramani sacrifice", and AVS 3.3.2, Whitney's "with the sāutrāmaṇī́ (ceremony)" -- and supplied with its materials by VS 19-21, which name the liquor, the ram, the jujube, the young shoots and the milk in one verse.2linked passages
- fire oblation (agnihotra)ritualThe offering poured into the fire, named as such exactly once in the four Saṃhitās (AVS 11.7.9, beside faith, the vaṣaṭ-call and the vow).1linked passages
- horse sacrifice (aśvamedha)ritualThe immolation of the horse, whose formulary is VS 22-25: the horse addressed by every one of its names and consecrated "for the sacrifice" (VS 22.19), told to prepare its own body (VS 23.15), and finally apportioned part by part (VS 25.1, VS 25.41). The compound itself occurs once, at VS 18.22, where elision of the initial a- spells it `'śvamedhaś ca me` and is why an earlier pass recorded it as absent.1linked passages

How this list was scoped2
AN INVENTORY OF 103 RITES, NOT A TAXONOMY. The Ritual class holds 103 nodes against a corpus that names considerably more, so a rank in this list is a rank within 103 and says nothing about Vedic ritual as a whole. Two step layers exist and they are not interchangeable. The Samhita layer holds 3 numbered steps in the entire graph, all on the soma pressing, whose morning, midday and third libations the text itself numbers. The procedural layer holds 3,121 steps over 103 rites, read out of Srautasutras and Grhyasutras rather than Samhita passages, and 94% of them state a position without printing the run it falls in -- so a procedure list is not a complete procedure. All 80 apparatus edges are TIER_D curation, and a rite's 'purpose' is what a curator says it is for, not a purpose clause quoted from a passage.
measured`passage_count` counts DISTINCT passages reaching the object through the lexical, conceptual and ritual predicates this surface counts, and is the same figure the detail view reports. It is NULL, never 0, where no passage reaches it: the mention layer's measured recall is 0.8857, so a null is a lower bound and not an assertion that the corpus is silent.
