Varcas, the lustre a person is quickened with or bound into an amulet for; the Atharvaveda's commonest single request word after wellbeing. Only the instrumental and dative are aliases: the bare stem sits inside brāhmaṇavarcasá and hastivarcasá, which are other people's splendour, and inside hatavarcasáḥ, which is its loss.
