concluding bath (avabhṛtha)

The bath that ends a soma rite, addressed in the vocative as a power in its own right: "avabhṛtha nicumpuṇa ... with the Gods may I wash out the sin that I have sinned against the Gods, with men the sin against mankind" (VS 3.48, VS 8.27, VS 20.18). Its place in the rite is stated rather than inferred: VS 19.28 closes its chain of means with "sāmnāvabhṛtha āpyate", by the Saman the concluding bath is reached.
