agnīdh

fire kindler (agnīdh)

The officiant who kindles the fire. Two attestations, in two Vedas, and both were read: RV 2.1.2 and RV 10.91.10, where Agni is told "tvam agnid ṛtāyataḥ" (Griffith's "Kindler for the pious man"), and VS 7.15, where the kindler is addressed in the vocative at the close of the offering formula, `yāḍ agnīt`. The stems `agnīdh` and `agnīdhraḥ` match nothing anywhere in the corpus.
